In Memoriam: Gerry Harris

Picture
IACC Honorary member, Gerry Harris,  passed away January 2, 2021 at the age of 88 years. He was born in London England, and at 17 years old immigrated with his parents to New Jersey, USA.

Gerry liked to travel and enjoyed photography so his education took longer than usual to complete. When he wasn't travelling he worked days and went to night school and graduated from Rutgers University with an Economics degree, and later an MBA. He met his wife Marie while travelling. In 1981 they moved to Edmonton where he worked for the Provincial Government until his retirement in 1994.

Gerry served as a board member of IACC, was our PSA representative for many years, and shared his photographic knowledge in many workshops. He was also a long time member of the Photographic Historical Society. Attending the Fringe and other Edmonton festivals were his favourite pastimes. Unfortunately, Parkinson's changed his freedom and he was confined to Holyrood Extended Care until he passed on. Gerry was one of the pioneers of black and white film, and darkroom processing.
