Standard Image Editing (Special Interest Group)

Photo Editing
When you alter an image file after it has come from your camera it may better represent what you actually saw in the scene, or capture the feeling and mood that you experienced at the time you took it.
In this special interest group, hosted by Gary Ford, members come together to build their image editing skills for realistic or journalistic style images. (See the example edits on the right.)

This group is open to beginners, intermediate and advanced photographers who wish to generally improve their post editing skills or produce better images for display and/or competitions. You can use whatever photo editing software you prefer but most members will use Adobe Lightroom and Camera RAW/Photoshop.

Note: if you are primarily interested in visual special effects using Generative AI or creating digital photo art, consider instead the Editing - Digital Photo Art special interest group. Of course you're welcome to join both groups.

We meet on the last Tuesday evenings of the month at 7:00 PM via zoom.

Why Edit Your Photos?
Add finesse and impact to your images by using:
  • Fault Correction – removing distracting elements, healing over sensor spots, leveling horizons, adjusting exposure
  • Managing light
  • Adding or decreasing contrast
  • Healing, cleaning up or simplifying
  • Denoising and/or sharpening
  • Colour management
  • Cropping for better composition
  • Colour conversion
  • Sky replacement

Meeting Format
Meetings are conducted digitally via
Zoom. To participate you will need a computer with a microphone and camera, or a smart tablet. You must pre-register to receive the link to the Zoom meetings.

What to expect
The meetings will have two components:

Before/After Image Editing Exercise - you will be invited to submit Before/After image sets where you show the image as it came from your camera and then your edited version(s) of that image. We will view and discuss the images

My Picture Your Edit Challenge Exercise - each month you will be challenged to try something new by working on RAW images supplied by the host and we will look at and discuss everyone's results.
