Workshops: Oct 2019

Tuesday, Oct 1, 2019 - IACC Competitions 1.01

The workshop is aimed at new club members, or returning club members who have not previously entered an IACC competition, or who have encountered problems trying to enter.

Presenter: Ron Ross

When: Tuesday October 1,  2019 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Where: London Drugs Oliver Square (11704 - 104th Avenue Edmonton)
Cost: free to IACC members
How to register: closed
Deadline for registrations: Thursday September 26, 2019 at midnight
Space: limited to 16 IACC members.  If more members register for this workshop, the attendees will be selected from a random draw. All members who are selected to attend will be notified via email no later than midnight on Sunday September 29th, 2019.
Prerequisite: membership in IACC
What to Bring: nothing required

Workshop details
This workshop will walk participants through:
  • the basics of formatting an image file for submission using Lightroom (other programs work in a similar manner)
  • the use and quirks of the entry forms.
Participants will be able to ask questions.
 

Tuesday, Oct 8, 2019 - Backup Strategies for Photographers

The workshop is aimed at photographers who are struggling with the best strategy for backing up their life's work of photos before a tragedy happens and all is lost.

When: Tuesday October 8, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Cost: free to IACC members

This workshop will walk participants through:
  • 3,2,1 rule
  • Different media options – USB, Optical, Hard Drive(Standard, NAS, RAID) and advantages of each
  • Setup options – Manual, Automated, Cloud
  • Best Practices

Participants will be able to ask questions and see some examples of backup hardware
 

Sunday, Oct 20, 2019 - Visual Storytelling & Portfolio Development

A four-part workshop for advanced amateurs and professional photographers to expand visual storytelling skills. (the other dates are  November 3 and 17, December 1)

Presenter: Santosh Korthiwada

When: Sunday, October 20, 2019, 1:00-5:00 p.m.
Where: Oliver Square London Drugs
Cost: $175
How to register: closed
Deadline for registrations: once the workshop is full the registration page will be closed
Space: 10 people
Prerequisite: membership in IACC. see below

Workshop details
Goals of the workshop are:
  • To be able to organize work into powerful narratives (sequencing, editing, & critique)
  • To be able to craft a story/narrative from beginning to completion of the project (short term and long term)
  • To practice the art of seeing and develop a distinct visual voice
  • To be able to develop an artist statement
  • To be able to develop a vision towards a portfolio, photobook, or a gallery showcase
 
Workshop Pre-requisites:
  • You already have a body of work or you are currently working on a project or you have ideas for a long-term project but, are yet to begin work
  • You will complete a set of preliminary tasks before the workshop (questionnaire, project identification, one-on-one with Santosh etc.)
  • By participating in the workshop, you are committing to attend all four sessions, that include theory, discussions, mandatory weekly assignments, and critique
