Thursday, Nov 11, 2021 - Guest speaker: Confessions of a Real Estate Photographer (Steve Ricketts)
Real estate photography is about telling the story of a property so as to entice prospective buyers to see it. This talk will cover the aspects and challenges of real estate photography. Many of these echo basic photographic principles: composition, angles, leading lines, working with the triangle (ISO, shutter, aperture).
Beyond that, it's about handling the various types of inside/outside lightning (each with its own colour temperature), handling reflections, the challenge of using wide angle lenses, getting rid of distracting elements. These factors are relevant for shooting inside and outside any building, so these tips should be of interest to people shooting building interiors in general and also urban landscapes.

While I'm a landscape photographer at heart, I've been doing real estate photography for 4 years, both because it's a fun challenge and it helps to pay for my photography addiction. Plus, I get to see the interior of million-dollar homes.
Follow me on my journey as i share what I've learned over the years. |
Saturday, Nov 13, 2021 - Workshop: Photoshop Editing with Clone Stamp Tool (Bruce Smith)
Long time club member Bruce Smith demonstrates a different way to achieve amazing results by painting with the clone stamp tool. It is assumed attendees will have basic familiarity using Photoshop. In the examples below, the 1st image of each pair is the "before" version and the 2nd is the "after" one.
Thursday, Nov 25, 2021 - Presentation: Photomotion 2021
Each November the Pacific Digital Photography Club (PDPC) produces "Photomotion”, a compendium of digital slide/sound shows produced by their members and their annual fund raiser. The shows presented are juried audio-visual presentations approximately 3 to 4 minutes in duration. Contents of the shows are up to the individual photographers, but are juried for quality by a panel of CAPA judges.
The North Shore Photographic Society (NSPS) has invited the PDPC to present its annual performance of Photomotion. This year there are 16 separate shows. And the PDPC show producers will be sharing the stories behind their productions! Kathryn McGarvey of the North Shore Photo Society says, "Last year’s evening was truly magical and we hope this year’s will be too.” Time: the Zoom door opens at 7:30 p.m. MT and the show starts at 8 p.m. Cost: the guest fee is $10, with all funds collected going to PDPC Register: email Kathryn McGarvey, then e-transfer to her (including your email address) $10 with the password “NSPS2021program”. Kathryn will then forward the registration information to you. |

Saturday, Nov 27, 2021 - Workshop: An Introduction to Adobe Lightroom Classic – Catalog and File Organization (Barry Headrick)
Is it time to start shooting in Raw not jpeg? Do you need an app to manage your growing collection of images? Are you new to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic or thinking about subscribing to it? If so, this two hour virtual workshop is for you! We will cover the key basic concepts in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classic. We will learn how to organize and manage your catalog and image files using the five key parent folders for Lightroom Classic users. We will watch and discuss two brief clips from a Tim Grey YouTube video
The full video is one hour and 52 minutes. The basic four step Lightroom Classic workflow will be demonstrated: copy your new raw files from your camera's memory card to your computer, import your raw files into Lightroom, rate and edit your images, and finally export your selected images as jpeg files. As time permits, we will cover various image organization (Library module) and editing (Develop module) features in Lightroom Classic.
Note: this workshop is NOT recommended for experienced Lightroom Classic users who have already established their own Lightroom workflow and file organization. This workshop will be presented on a Windows PC but Mac users are welcome to attend.
