Tuesday, May 4, 2021 - Member Showcase: "Burn My Butt"
For this, I need about six volunteers. I’m looking for an image or a series of images that you took hoping that they would get people off their butts and taking action in some way. If you've documented some social, economic, health, environmental, or other issue, this would be your chance to show your images. I’m thinking of those of you engaged in the Red Dress project, the Now I lay Me Down To Sleep organization, street shots of the homeless, images of folks living in poverty, the work of charitable organizations, disaster images, emergency issues such as fires or explosions, threats to the environment or environmental eye sores. Perhaps you have documented the COVID pandemic is some way - if so, please show us what you have taken.
I would welcome whatever you have, but would encourage you to use the Pecha Kucha format of 20 slides, 20 seconds each with narration if you can. If you have a project that would need more time than this, I would entertain that showing.
If you are interested in being part of this event email Gary Ford (Program Chair)

Illustrated by inspiring photographs from around the world, The Heart of the Photograph Virtual Lecture with David duChemin is a 90-minute conversation (including Q&A time) exploring ten powerful ideas about the creation of more engaging photographs. This webinar will discuss techniques and ways of thinking about the creation of images designed to engage human imagination and emotion, including questions of vision and intent, the use of space and time, the creation of depth, and the use of point of view. David will also discuss mood and mystery, storytelling, and what this all means for our choices of moments as well as more practical considerations, like the more creative use of exposure tools, composition, and more. This will be a compelling lecture with (and about) heart that your club will remember for a long time.

As an international workshop leader and author of best-selling books like Within The Frame and The Soul of the Camera ( both published in over a dozen languages), he’s taught students this incredible craft on all seven continents.

Wednesday, May 5, 2021 - Creative Photography: "Beyond Capture" (Brad Allen, St. Albert Photography Club)
Brad Allen is a photographer artist who loves the outdoors, wildlife, trains, movies, being happy and inspired by life. He works on and creates images that express a positive and inspiring message or sense about our world, whether directly or through conversation.
"Photography is the result of a photographic process (analog or digital); the camera is simply a tool that aids in the bringing-forth of your sense in what you experience. What do you want to experience? What do you want your audience to experience? It's the experience that you actually share, it's what actually makes the impact on the viewer. More thought into creation equals more thought/experience for the audience."
When: 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Where: online, using Zoom (for help on how to use Zoom, click here)
How to attend: IACC has been invited to send up to 10 members. If you are interested in attending, email Gary Ford (Program Chair) ASAP, and include the date and name of the event and the club hosting

This 75-minute presentation is about Kathryn’s personal photographic journey from NEVER having taken any wildlife photos to realizing a dream come true by photographing on safari in Kruger National Park in South Africa.
- What steps she took to get ready?
- What gear she took?
- Travel arrangements?
- What was a typical safari day?
- What are the Big 5? Shots of the Big 5
- What are the Big 10? Shots of the Big 10
- Other shots from South Africa
- What were some of her Photoshop tricks used to process her images?
Kathryn took up photography seriously 6 years ago while spending a summer in a wheelchair. Her husband encouraged her to take a course so that she wouldn’t drive him crazy. So, she took an intro to digital photography course, joined North Shore Photographic Society and CAPA, and never looked back.
She is passionate about photography although her accounting career keeps her from spending as much time on it as she would like. She currently shoots with Fujifilm gear. Her photography interests are landscape, long exposure, black and white, and macro. She is starting to become more comfortable with wildlife but still have a long way to go. She loves the learning process on her photographic journey. She has won awards in both international and CAPA photography competitions and twice been published in Canadian Camera magazine. |
