Landscape (Special Interest Group)

In this special interest group, hosted by Steve Ricketts, members come together to share and build their landscape photography skills.

The meeting is open to photographers of all skill levels. The meetings run the first Tuesday of the month, September through May.

What is Landscape Photography?
It includes landscapes, seascapes, mountain ranges, rivers and forests, astrophotography and wide view of cityscapes. These images can include people, animals, inanimate or man-made constructions (buildings, roads, farms, bridges, etc.) but the primary focus of the photograph must be the landscape.

It can be about habitat, environment, land altered by industry, agricultural practice and pastoral vistas. It can be representational, impressionistic, intimate or abstract.

Meeting Format
Meeting are conducted digitally via Zoom. To participate you will need a computer with a microphone and camera, or a smart tablet. You must pre-register for this SIG to receive a link to the Zoom meetings.

What to expect

A typical meeting will involve:

Learn – a demonstration or presentation on some aspect of taking or planning ‘Scape images.
Share – viewing and discussion of ‘Scape images that fit the meeting theme.

Other activities may include group outings and group meetups, depending on interest.

We meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 PM, for 90 - 120 minutes.

Nov 7, 2024 (note date change) B&W landscapes. A joint meeting with the B&W SIG
Dec 3, 2024 the Alberta Prairies. demonstration of software tools and apps to create gorgeous landscape images
Jan 7, 2025: skies. could be cloudy skies, dark stormy skies, or clear skies (with stars, the Milky Way, aurora, sunrise/sunset, noctilucent clouds). The sky needs to be the focus of the image
Feb 4, 2025: winter high-key
Mar 4, 2025: hills and mountains
Apr 1, 2025: abstract
May 6, 2025: urban or city scapes
Jun 3, 2025: intimate or miniature; i.e. the main subject should be less than 20 cm high
