Bryan Cooper & Thomas O’Hara together form Cooper & O'Hara, a commercial and editorial photography studio located in Edmonton. Following their time at NAIT from 2011 to 2013, they hit the ground running, diving into photography full time. Their work has taken them to several different countries and has been featured in numerous publications.
Together Bryan and Thomas shared their passion for travel and photography with IACC in February 2017. Their talk was focused on their expertise in pulling together an amazing travel adventure with a paid photography “gig.” Part of their planning, prior to a project or a trip, involves story boarding by creating a picture board. Before they leave on a trip, research and planning gives them an edge when they arrive at their destination. Part of planning involves having your hotel address handy when you land, especially in case you get lost in the excitement of capturing a new journey’s end. Interestingly, they are not locked and loaded on one specific name brand for their gear, but are instead focused on the product that gets the job done. Storage capacity, size and weight of gear, and transmission of photos during the shoot are all considerations when packing up. Gear strategy for short haul trips and those for the long overseas trips are already committed to lists, including which bags work best for hauling it all around. |
Bryan and Thomas together are easy-going, yet have a focused work ethic to bring home to the client a captivating and creative produce for advertising campaigns, editorial features or not-for-profit work.
There were a few other reminders despite all the planning. Take time, to sit still and watch what is going on around you. Remember to look behind you to gain a 360-degree view of where you are. It’s all part of the story around you and a story that could possibly translate into a product that could be that one in a thousand shots, that could well pay for the entire trip. |

There's another piece of content we've made that your members might be interested in. We've put together a gear guide that shows what equipment we're currently using, where to get it, and what it's good for and why we like it.
We just offer it for free when people sign up for our newsletter, which we do monthly with interesting images we've made that month, links to relevant content we're reading or watching, and any other special freebies we're putting out, etc. There's a link to subscribing within the presentation page as well but wanted to make note of it so you can pass that info along to the members, and if they're interested in getting that/subscribing there's a direct link here: http://cooperandohara.com/subscribe/
