Photo Editing – "when you alter an image file in any way after it has come from
Why Photo Edit – to achieve a final image that either represents what you actually saw in the scene being photographed, or to achieve a final image that represents your own artistic intentions. There are many reasons to edit your images – from simply adding contrast to a flat RAW file, cropping, removing noise, adding sharpness, or changing file size for printing; to removing unwanted elements of an image, adding special effects, or creating a composite of multiple images to get a desired effect.
This special interest group, co-lead by Bob Royer, Larry Holland and Gary Ford, will look at basic image editing, using four programs – Lightroom, Photoshop/Camera Raw/Bridge, Topaz Studio, and Luminar.
The key word is BASIC. This special interest group is targeted at those who are new to photo editing, or those who haven’t yet started and are wondering what photo editing software to choose. Members with lots of experience with one or more of the four software applications may find benefits as we look at the software you aren’t using, but if you are looking for an intermediate or advanced special interest group, this is likely not the SIG for you.
Meetings will be conducted digitally via Zoom. To participate you will need a computer with a microphone and camera, or a smart tablet. You must pre-register to receive the link to the Zoom meetings.
Unlike most of the other SIGs which have a high amount of time showing member images, this special interest group will predominantly be educational in nature. We do intend to provide time to socialize, and will invite members to share some of their own before/after editing images, but most of each session will involve a show-and-tell about how to use each of the four software platforms to accomplish specific elements of photo editing. This way, participants will have a chance to make some decisions of their own about which platform they would like to use as their own editing tools.
Each meeting, the three co-leaders will work on the same image. Each will use one of the four programs to show how the program works – Larry Holland will show Photoshop with Camera Raw, Bob Royer will show Lightroom, and Gary Ford will show Topaz Studio and Luminar.
Intention of the SIG Leaders: The order of topics and the schedule below must be regarded as tentative. What we do through the course of the year will depend on the interests and abilities of the SIG members. The order of topics may change but the scheduled dates will remain unchanged.
Meetings: September 2020 to June 2021
(the last Wednesday of each month (excluding December) at 7:00 p.m. Meetings will last approximately 75-90 minutes, conducted via Zoom)
